Hair
The pieces in the "Hair" portfolio are made from my own hair, collected after monthly haircuts from 1987 - 2014. I was curious to see how the color of my hair changed over time as it turned from brown to gray. The hair was collected in packets and cataloged by date. In 2014, I decided to create some pieces from the hair. Most were temporary; created, documented, and disasembled. The piece titled "Hair Wand" is more permanent and acts as a value scale showing the color changes over the ensuing years. This work encompasses several recurring themes: time (which includes memory), autobiography, investigation and discovery, and the body.
